Sourav Ganguly, affectionately known as Dada and the Prince of Calcutta, is one of India's most successful and influential cricket captains. Born on July 8, 1972, in Kolkata, Ganguly made his international debut in 1992, but it was his spectacular debut century at Lord's in 1996 that cemented his place in the national side. Appointed as captain in 2000 during a turbulent phase for Indian cricket, he revolutionized the team's mindset, instilling a fierce, aggressive, and competitive spirit, especially during overseas tours. Under his leadership, India reached the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup and famously won the NatWest Series in 2002. As a left-handed batsman, he was renowned for his elegant off-side play, earning the moniker God of the Off-Side. After retiring from all formats of the game in 2012, Ganguly successfully transitioned into cricket administration. He served as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2015 to 2019 and later became the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India from 2019 to 2022. He remains a highly prominent figure in cricket commentary, administration, and sports media, currently serving as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Indian Premier League.
