About
Bhupendrabhai Rajnikant Patel is an Indian politician and civil engineer serving as the 17th Chief Minister of Gujarat since September 2021. Born and raised in Ahmedabad, Patel completed a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Government Polytechnic, Ahmedabad, in 1982. Before fully committing to public service, he worked professionally in the real estate and construction sectors. His political journey began at the grassroots level in municipal governance, where he held several key administrative roles in Ahmedabad's local bodies. Over more than two decades, Patel served as a member and later president of the Memnagar Nagarpalika, a council member for the Thaltej ward, and the chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. In 2015, he was appointed chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority, a position focused on local infrastructure and urban development. Patel entered state-level politics in 2017 when he won the legislative assembly election from the Ghatlodia constituency with a record-breaking margin. In September 2021, following the resignation of Vijay Rupani, he was selected by the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership to take office as Chief Minister. Following a landslide victory for his party in the 2022 state elections, he was sworn in for a second consecutive term in December 2022. His administration has focused on governance reforms, digital public platforms, and infrastructural development across Gujarat.
