Varsha Gaikwad is a prominent Indian politician serving as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, representing the Mumbai North Central constituency. A senior leader of the Indian National Congress, she has built a formidable reputation in Maharashtra politics. Prior to her election to the parliament in 2024, Gaikwad served as a four-term Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Dharavi constituency in Mumbai from 2004 to 2024. During her tenure in the state legislature, she held several key ministerial portfolios in the Government of Maharashtra, most notably serving as the Cabinet Minister for School Education from 2019 to 2022 under the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition government. She also previously served as the Minister for Women and Child Development. Born into a political family, her father, Eknath Gaikwad, was a veteran Congress leader and Member of Parliament.
