Prathap Chandra Reddy is an Indian cardiologist, entrepreneur, and healthcare visionary best known as the founder and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals. Born in Aragonda, Andhra Pradesh, Reddy completed his medical education at Stanley Medical College in Chennai before pursuing advanced fellowship training in cardiology in the United Kingdom and the United States, including work at Massachusetts General Hospital. Upon returning to India, he recognized a critical lack of world-class medical infrastructure and founded the Apollo Hospitals Group in Chennai in 1983, establishing India's first corporate hospital network. Under his leadership, Apollo grew into one of Asia's largest healthcare conglomerates, pioneering medical technology, corporate healthcare delivery, preventive health check-ups, and rural telemedicine. A dedicated advocate for universal health coverage, Reddy championed rural insurance models and spearheaded initiatives such as the Save a Child's Heart Foundation and the Billion Hearts Beating campaign. His contribution to transforming India's private healthcare sector earned him the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2010.
