Pusarla Venkata Ramana, commonly known as P. V. Ramana, is a former Indian professional volleyball player and an Arjuna Award recipient. Born in Hyderabad, India, Ramana rose to national prominence as a key member of the Indian national volleyball team during the 1980s. His most notable sporting achievement came in 1986 when he represented India and won the bronze medal at the Seoul Asian Games, a historic moment for Indian volleyball. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport, the Government of India honored him with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1986. Professionally, Ramana was employed with the Indian Railways, where he also played for the railways' volleyball team, contributing significantly to their domestic tournament victories. Apart from his own athletic legacy, Ramana is widely recognized as the father of P. V. Sindhu, one of India's greatest badminton players and an Olympic multi-medalist. Along with his wife, P. Vijaya, who was also a national-level volleyball player, Ramana played a pivotal role in nurturing and guiding Sindhu's badminton career from a young age, providing her with the foundational athletic discipline required to succeed at the global stage.
