Mustafa Suleyman is a prominent British artificial intelligence entrepreneur, executive, and author, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft AI. He is widely recognized as the co-founder of DeepMind, one of the world's leading AI research laboratories, which he established in 2010 alongside Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg. Following DeepMind's acquisition by Google in 2014 for an estimated 400 million pounds, Suleyman served as the company's Head of Applied AI, leading efforts to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into various Google products, health systems, and energy grids. Born in London to a Syrian taxi driver and an English nurse, Suleyman showed an early interest in social entrepreneurship. Prior to his career in artificial intelligence, he co-founded the Muslim Youth Helpline, a mental health support service for young Muslims, and Reos Partners, a systemic change consultancy. In 2022, he departed Google to co-found Inflection AI with Reid Hoffman and Karén Simonyan, aiming to create highly conversational, empathetic personal AI assistants. During his tenure at Inflection, the company launched Pi, a popular conversational AI companion. In March 2024, Microsoft hired Suleyman and several of his key colleagues from Inflection AI to lead its newly formed consumer AI division, Microsoft AI, directing efforts for products like Copilot. He is also the author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Coming Wave, which explores the profound societal implications and governance challenges of AI.
