M. M. Keeravani is an acclaimed Indian music composer, lyricist, and playback singer who works predominantly in Telugu cinema, alongside Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam films. Known for his versatility and soulful melodies, Keeravani has composed music for over 220 films across various Indian languages. He often uses the aliases Marakathamani in Tamil and Kannada cinema, and M. M. Kreem in Hindi cinema. Keeravani's musical journey began in the late 1980s, but he achieved widespread recognition with the 1991 Telugu blockbuster Kshana Kshanam. Over the decades, he established himself as a stalwart of Indian film music. His collaborative partnership with his cousin, the visionary director S. S. Rajamouli, has produced some of the biggest soundtracks in Indian cinema history, including the epic Baahubali franchise and the global phenomenon RRR. In 2023, Keeravani achieved unprecedented international acclaim when his composition Naatu Naatu from the film RRR won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, making it the first song from an Indian production to receive these honors. In recognition of his massive contributions to Indian art and music, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2023.
