Kapil Sibal is a highly distinguished Indian politician, senior advocate, and former administrator who has played a pivotal role in shaping India's legal and political landscape. Born in Jalandhar, Punjab, Sibal completed his education at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and later earned an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. He joined the Bar in 1973 and was designated as a Senior Advocate in 1983, establishing a formidable reputation in constitutional, corporate, and civil law. Over his illustrious legal career, Sibal has argued several landmark cases in the Supreme Court of India. Beyond law, he has had a prominent career in public service. As a member of the Indian National Congress, he held several high-profile ministerial portfolios in the United Progressive Alliance government, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Ministry of Law and Justice. In 2022, Sibal resigned from the Congress party and was subsequently re-elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent candidate supported by the Samajwadi Party. He also served as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association multiple times, most recently elected to the post in 2024.
