Chad Hurley is an American Internet entrepreneur, designer, and investor best known as the co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer of YouTube, the world's leading video-sharing platform. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Hurley studied fine art at Indiana University of Pennsylvania before joining PayPal in 1999 as its first user interface designer, where he notably designed the company's original logo. At PayPal, he met Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, with whom he co-founded YouTube in February 2005. Hurley designed the platform's initial interface, website structure, and video-tagging systems. In October 2006, Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock, and Hurley continued to serve as CEO until stepping down in October 2010 to act as an advisor. Following his tenure at YouTube, Hurley co-founded AVOS Systems in 2011, acquired the social bookmarking service Delicious, and launched the video-editing mobile application MixBit. In 2019, he co-founded GreenPark Sports, a digital sports and mobile gaming platform where he serves as chairman. Outside of tech ventures, Hurley is an active angel investor with stakes in sports franchises, including minority ownership in the NBA's Golden State Warriors and MLS's Los Angeles Football Club.
